Hallmarking
Hallmarking in the UK is a legal requirement and it is obligatory to display a dealers notice online when selling precious metals, hallmarking shows that items purchased have been tested and found to meet the standards required. There are exceptions for unfinished pieces, dental and industrial applications etc, please see the assay office website for more details on such things.
Needless to say all of the handmade items I offer in silver meet the aforementioned standards and applicable laws so you can buy in confidence. As a sidenote - remember that '999' or '925' stamps are not hallmarks, these mean nothing at all and the metal punches to stamp items with the '999' or '925' mark can be bought cheaply online (I could stamp my car wheel with such a stamp but it will never be silver).
